Please note that the following stuff that i'm gonna blog about might be a
SPOILER to the drama,
"Winter Sonata". Hence, you may want to skip this post if you are watching or intend to watch the drama.
*** SPOILER ALERT ***if you've ever watched this drama, you will know that there were actually speculation that jong-sang and yu-jin are actually half-blood related. (meaning they were thought to have the same father, but i think they are not related in the end. btw, im still downloading the last two episodes hence i don't really know the ending yet.) so the question that i had in mind when i watch that part was..
Qn: are half-siblings or step-siblings able to get married legally?(note: half-siblings are blood related while step-siblings ain't)
so before i actually reveal the answer that i found, here's another intersting thing that i read about while researching on that topic..
Quote..
"Up until recently, in certain Asian cultures, it was forbidden to marry those with the same surname regardless of relations. These clan marriages were considered incestuous... because having the same surname was considered as having the same ancestor."
Source:
Wikipedia - Prohibited degree of kinshiphmm, i wonder what would've happened if i told my parents that my girlfriend has the same surname as me lol
anyway, the answer to the question is..
Quote..
"All states prohibit a person from marrying a sibling, half-sibling, parent, grandparent, great-grandparent, child, grandchild, great-grandchild, aunt, uncle, niece, or nephew. Some states have additional prohibitions."
Source:
Marriage Requirements, Procedures, and Ceremonies FAQso in a nutshell, marriage between
step-siblings is
allowed, however, marriage between
half-siblings is considered to be
tabooed.
*** END OF SPOILER ***so i guess you can actually learn something from watching dramas =)
